The Oscars red carpet is one of the most-watched fashion moments of the entire year so of course we were all glued to the screen from the red carpet to the very end. Lupita Nyong’o wore Prada, Jennifer Lawrence fell over in her Dior gown, Pharrell Williams wore shorts and Ellen took what could possibly be the world’s greatest selfie. By all means it was a glamorous affair, and here we have the dollhouse’s hits and misses of the 86th Academy Awards.
1. As anticipated Lupita Nyong'o, Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner, stunned with a pale blue plunging gown, firmly reinforcing her status as Queen of the Red Carpet. The subtle accessorizing complimented her look so well with a simple crystal hairband.
2. Cate Blanchett received the best actress title as well as dazzling on the red carpet in a romantic style Armani gown. The nude cap sleeved gown with flared tulle skirt did bring a little old Hollywood sophistication to the night, especially with the waved hair and stunning drop earrings.
3. Kate Hudson sprinkled a little old Hollywood glamour on the Oscars this year in a beaded Versace dress, with a deep v-neckline and cape detail. Oscar glamour at its very finest.
4. The red carpet definitely reinforced the fact that pastels are very much in this season, but Camila Alves made it her own. Matthew McConaughey’s wife looked incredible in her baby pink gown which featured a gorgeous train and a cape.
Although our adoration for the following ladies is by no means in doubt, we all felt that perhaps they played it a little safe with regards to their outfit choices this year. After all the Oscars is a pedestal to take advantage of, that occasion to don the most elaborate show stopping gown, a statement piece that will be memorial in years to come. If you can't wear i to the Oscars, then really where can you wear it ?
Playing it safe .......
Amy Adams looked immaculate in this tuxedo inspired navy Gucci gown, yet we just can't help but feel slightly underwhelmed by it. It’s sleek and an enchanting colour but by no means the show stopping Oscar worthy gown. Jennifer Lawrence was indeed the image of perfection as a scarlet siren. Her fitted strapless red Dior gown with peplum detail was simple elegance, but simple being the key word, and through her reputation she took another tumble up the red carpet. Naomi Watts went simplest also in white Calvin Klein ice beaded cap sleeve dress with a spider’s web Bulgari necklace. Her look was a pleasant change on a night when compared to the other style, yet still a very traditional safe choice. Our advice would be to let go a little next year, release your inner Doll, think lots of tulle, glitter and bows, lots of bows.
Honorable mention has to go to Pharrell and Wife Helen. Their outfits complimented each other with the singer-songwriter's wife opting for a chic white blazer and black pants combo, while he choose to wear shorts, we're still unsure as to whether it's ultra chic or just ridiculous.
And of course with all the glitz and glamour of any award ceremony, a few fashion mishaps will creep through the cracks and this year was no exception. Firstly, and perhaps somewhat controversially Penelope Cruz. The actress failed to impress in her pink Giambattista Valli gown it seemed to drown her out with excess material. The black belt was almost too harsh against pale pink and the half-cape was reminiscent of something from a batman movie. Last but never ever least Lady Gaga. Never one to fail surprise on the red carpet with her outlandish looks that are so clearly her own unique style. However this was dramatically quenched this year, the singer was a bit of a bore in the metallic pink Versace gown, as for the chiffon scarf we actually don't know what to say ?
